YOUR
GUIDE - Klaus Uhlenhut
John
Young, Australia's well known and respected naturalist,
wildlife film maker and consultant, says:
"Birding
and travelling through this great country of ours
is one of life's great pleasures.
Often
it takes us into remote and sometimes uncharted
wilderness, which few people get a chance to experience
...... unless you are with Klaus, when your tour
will be an adventure of hospitality with expertise
in observing wildlife, and especially bird watching,
and become one of the memorable experiences in
your life."
With
a love of nature and the environment since childhood,
Klaus first experienced Australian Wildlife when
he arrived in Darwin from West Germany in 1980.
Working
on Dunk Island Klaus' affinity with camera and nature,
and his unaffected sense of discovery, enthusiasm
and easy-going manner, led to the job of the Islands
Naturalist, and inspiration from the Wompoo Fruit-Dove
(Ptilinopus magnificus) to specialise in Birding.
With
Dunk Islands Wild and Bird Life fully catalogued,
Klaus set off to the Tip of Cape York where Australian
Airlines employed him as their official Naturalist
at their newly upgraded Wilderness Lodge. In 1989,
armed with invaluable knowledge gained from years
of experience of the North's ' Special Places' both
with Wildlife and in the tourist industry, Klaus
opened his own business, Kirrama Wildlife Tours.
Now,
with nearly twenty years of expertise in birdwatching,
recognising calls, nocturnal bird searching and locating
wildlife in Australia's northern regions, Klaus specialises
in finding that elusive bird for the experienced
birdo. Beginners fit in just as comfortably in the
small groups, where the informal atmosphere brings
together people from a variety of backgrounds and
nationalities with one common interest ............birds.
Since
1983, Klaus has photographed with publishing success
Australian Wildlife. His photographs have been used
in numerous publications including, wilderness diaries,
educational material, books, magazines, and calenders.
He is a contributor to two photographic libraries:
A.N.T.
Photo library in Melbourne/Australia.
Animals
Animals/ Earth Scenes in New York/USA.
